Outside the Box, Inc. operates in the state of Indiana as a non-profit charity organization ... which means we have a specific mission to fulfill, not just making a profit. Our mission is our Participants : To empower people with intellectual disabilities toward personal growth, through education, self-discovery, leadership development, and a customized career path.
As a non-profit we operate differently than a for-profit company, as in how we must pay our employees. Nonprofit workers earn less that private sector employees and we must adhere to the Department of Labor Fair Labor Standards Act. Employees are classified by job duties and as a non-profit OTB gets "restricted funding" that can only be used for programs/purposes.
That being said, we are only allowed to pay a "so-much" salary and we would much rather pay more because they are all so valuable to Outside the Box!
We've set up a "You Rock" fund to allow you, Corporations, donors, parents, friends, and beyond the opportunity to gift our employees as you see fit! Whether a gift card, gas card, groceries, movie tickets, cash ... It is greatly appreciated!
